  The Leadership of the Moot and Mock Society of the Federation of African Law Students wishes to inform all FALASITES and Law Students across the African Continent that it is set to host the maiden edition of the FALAS ADVOCACY DEVELOPMENT MOOT COURT CHAMPIONSHIP 1.0. The Competition is organized in line with the Society and the Association’s drive to promote legal Advocacy amongst Law Students in the Federation. The competition whose semi final and final rounds will take place at the annual conference of the Association which will hold in South Africa in the month of October, 2022 will feature the following stages and phases: • The memorial writing stage. • Semi Final rounds. • Moot championship finals. Federation African Law Students Becomes an Institutional Member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association

  The Federation of African Law Students (FALAS) has become an institutional member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA). The Commonwealth Lawyers Association is a membership organisation for professional lawyers, academics and students practising within the Commonwealth. The CLA welcomes qualified international lawyers and academics with an interest in its work. With this membership, FALAS will receive access to the members’ only networking platform CLA Connect and have access to the quarterly Commonwealth Lawyer Journal. The CLA is setting up 5 committees within CLA for climate justice, human rights and rule of law, technology and the law, Mediation and ADR and corporate/commercial debates and projects and when these are set up, members will be able to join these committees and participate. As a corollary to the above, the Executive Committee of the CLA has offered our wider FALAS membership who are interested to join the CLA a special time limited individual membership rate of £10 (ten pounds) until 10th September. If in case you are interested, kindly contact us for some further information on how this would work. This offer comes at a time when the CLA Young Lawyers are hosting a virtual conference on 22nd September from 7.00 am – 4.30 pm CAT. Anyone can register for the conference but there will be a charge of £15 (ten pounds) for non CLA members whilst it is free for members. There has never been a better time to join, as payment of £10 will secure CLA membership and entitle any interested party in registering for the virtual event for free. FALAS members will also have a special discounted rate at the 23rd Commonwealth Law Conference in Goa 5th-9th March 2023 and the CLA would be delighted to welcome you to the event, particularly as all FALAS members would be eligible to attend the bespoke programme and networking day on 5th March devoted to students and young lawyers. OUR PRESIDENT VISITS LIBERIA

The Federation of African Law Students International President H.E. Alfred Eli K. Dei is on a Country Visit to Liberia. The President will be hosted by the Law Students’ Association of Liberia (LAWSA).   President Eli will also witness the inauguration of the new President Elect of the LAWSA, H. E. Williamina E. Budy from Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law in Liberia. FALAS values the connection we share with national Law Students’ Unions who are our Strategic Implementation partners in Africa. The Federation is made up of different Law Students’ Unions/Associations from Law Schools/Faculties in all regions accross the continent of Africa who constitute our membership. We work with the Law Societies, Law Students’ Associations and Unions at University and National levels to foster our agenda of Unifying the African Voice towards an Africa of collaborative youth with a common goal towards a Pan African Legal Future.   Date: 4th July, 2022 We are delighted to inform you that official registration for the African Law Students’ Annual Conference commenced on 4 July, 2022 and will end on 11 September, 2022. The conference is scheduled to take place on 3rd – 5th October 2022 at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Due to the nature of this conference, delegates are expected to travel between 2nd – 6th October, 2022. To be officially registered to attend the conference, each delegate will be required to pay a registration fee of $350 to cater for their Meals, Accommodation and an excursion to the historic sites of Soweto during your stay in South Africa.
